Dr. Philip Butera graduated from Duke University with a degree in Arts and History. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. After receiving his medical degree he joined the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Butera completed his residency in Internal Medicine followed by a Nephrology fellowship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical and University of San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Butera served as Major in the USAF Med Corps and was honorably discharged after 10 years of active and reserve service.
Dr. Butera joined Nephrology Associates of Mobile, P.A. in 1985. He is board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Butera served 12 years on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation (AQAF)-The peer review organization tasked with overseeing the quality of medical care provided by physicians caring for Medicare patients in Alabama.
In addition to his general Nephrology practice treating Hypertension, Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis and Transplant patients, Dr. Butera has a special interest in Kidney Stone Prevention.
